[A] 34-year-old Maryport man who suffered life-threatening injuries in an assault on Tuesday has died today (9 August, 2017).
The assault occurred on Senhouse Street, Maryport, just after midnight on Tuesday (8 August, 2017).
The 34-year-old man was taken to Carlisle Infirmary having suffered stab wounds and has since died.
A 32-year-old man from the Maryport area has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.
Police initially referred to the suspect as a Carlisle man. However, officers have since found him to reside in Maryport having moved to the area in the last month or so.
Anyone with information about this incident who has yet to come forward is urged to contact Cumbria Police as soon as possible.
