[A] PIZZA delivery driver has been sentenced for cannabis supply crimes.
Matthew Keith Hyden, a 33-year-old father-of-seven, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today (FRI).
Hyden was punished having previously admitted supplying cannabis between June last year and March 2017; and possessing the class B drug with intent to supply on March 25 this year.
His offending came to light after his vehicle was stopped by police in Carlisle. Officers recovered cannabis, cash, plastic bags and weighing scales. Analysis of Hyden’s mobile phone showed people had contacted him to buy cannabis, the court heard.
He had committed the crimes amid “financial difficulties” – and while employed by a city pizza and kebab takeaway. However, Judge Barbara Forrester heard he had learned a “valuable lesson” from his wrongdoing.
Hyden, of Petteril Street, Carlisle, had an eight-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months. He must complete 200 hours’ unpaid work, and a 30-day rehabilitation requirement.
