Lusia Malinowska

[N]orth Yorkshire Police has named the driver of a black Ford Fiesta who died at Leeds General Infirmary following a two-vehicle collision on the A1041 at Barlow, near Camblesforth, which occurred at around 10.55pm on 30 August 2017.

She is Halina Malinowska, known as Lusia, aged 69, from Barlby, Selby.

The coroner has opened an investigation into her death and will open an inquest in due course.

Sadly, officers received an update from St James’s Hospital in Leeds last Thursday (14 September) that the front seat passenger in the Fiesta, a 63-year-old woman from Selby, has passed away after being in a critical condition. We are not in a position to name her at this time.

The driver of the white Ford Connect van that was involved in the collision, a 27-year-old man from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, has been discharged from York District Hospital.

Family tribute

Lusia, who was fiercely proud of her Polish heritage, will be laid to rest on 20 September.

Her daughter, Maria, issued the following tribute on behalf of the family, including Lusia’s son-in-law Daron and grandchildren, Ashleigh and Lily:

“My mum, Halina Malinowska, known as Lusia by most people, was the most beautiful, amazing, selfless, caring person I know.

“Always helping others, she was retired but volunteered her time at Barlby Library and Age UK, Selby’s Tuesday Club at Drax Social Club and helped wherever she could.

“She was always ready to lend a hand or an ear, and this was for other people. She was a popular and well-loved member of the community.

“To me she was mum and to my children grandma. We were her world and she was ours.

“She was a massive ball of energy, always buzzing around – she’d leave you exhausted but loved.

“She made time for everything and everyone and truly lived life to the full.

“Another bright light has gone out in the world but never in our hearts.”
