[D]ETECTIVES investigating the murder of a woman in Rossendale have today (Tuesday, September 26th) charged a man.

Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Saleem Said, 39, of Woodcroft Street, Rawtenstall, has been charged with the murder of Leanne Collopy, 25, the attempted murder of a two year old girl and arson with intent to endanger life.

He is due to appear at Preston Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning (Wednesday, September 27th).

Police were called around 10.45pm on Sunday, July 30th following reports of a fire at a property in Burnley Road. Emergency services attended the address and a 39-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman and a two year old girl were all rescued from the building.

All three were taken to hospital suffering a number of serious injuries and sadly Leanne Collopy died on August 3rd.

A post mortem examination showed she had died as a result of burns and multiple stab wounds. The toddler was released from hospital last week and is recovering, although she will need further treatment.

The family continue to be supported by specially trained officers.
