[H]usband and wife, Jason and Lesley Bryson, have both won the Nett Club Championship at Burneside-based golf club, Carus Green, a double-victory described by the club as ‘unprecedented’. The separate 36-hole competitions took place over two days (for the men) and just one day for the women’s section, both taking place in fine and sunny conditions.
Jason, who has a handicap of six, was pipped to the post by Mike Turner in the gross competition, eventually picking up the trophy for the nett tournament. Wife, Lesley, with a handicap of 22, had secured a second-place position following the first round, ultimately taking the top spot.
The Kendal-based winning duo, who are hoping to retain their crowns next year, have been members of the club for many years. Leslie joined the women’s section in 2010 and Jason in 2005, serving as club captain in 2011.
“We’re delighted with our double win; it was a really enjoyable day,” said Jason, who currently serves as Carus’s handicap secretary. “We’ll be trying to retain our titles again next year although I’d love to win the gross!”
“What a splendid win for Jason and Lesley; I don’t believe a husband and wife have won simultaneously in this competition before, so we’re very pleased for them,” says Carus’s Senior PGA Professional, Dave Turner. “It was almost a tremendous day, with fine conditions and a great turnout!”
