Cumbrian international Georgia Stanway is coming back to England to play for Arsenal.
The 27-year-old international has spent four years in the Bundesliga after joining Bayern Munich from Manchester City in 2022.
With her contract completed she made the decision to switch to Arsenal on a free transfer.
Barrow-born Stanway won the WSL title, three FA Cups and three League Cups with City before her move to Bavaria.
As an England international Stanway has played 93 games scoring 33 goals and featured in both the Lionesses’ historic Women’s European Championship triumphs, in 2022 and 2025.
Stanway said: “I’m so proud to be joining Arsenal. This is a massive club that is driving the women’s game forward to new levels and I want to be a part of it.”
Arsenal coach Renee Slegers said: “She will add a new dimension to our midfield, bringing experience and adding to our winning mentality. We look forward to getting down to work in pre-season for a big campaign ahead.”
She began playing football at a young age in Barrow, as it was what her brothers did, and at the age of three was training with them in an under-7 team.
She continued playing for boys’ teams until she was 13 but as well as football, Stanway played cricket alongside her brothers, and represented Cumbria in county cricket at under-13 and under-17 level.
She also represented the county at football, playing for Cumbria Schoolgirls in English Schools Football Association competitions at regional level in 2013 and 2014 before being signed by Blackburn Rovers.
Her brother Wyll is a talented cricketer, currently playing for Dalton in the Cumbria League’s Premier Division but better known as goalkeeper for Barrow, now in the National League.
