[O]n Thursday 19 October Central Academy will host a production of ‘Feel the Hate’. ‘Feel the Hate’ is an innovative and powerful new play from the creative team behind the hugely successful ‘Chelsea’s Choice’.

The production has been developed out of a growing need to raise awareness amongst young people around Hate Crime.

The 30 minute production will be performed in front of a group of 120 Year 8 students and will be followed by a 30 minute post show talk to explore the issues it raises.

‘Feel the Hate’ was originally commissioned by the office of the Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner and is designed to raise awareness of what Hate Crime is, the effect that Hate Crime can have and where to go for help and advice.

Key Stage 3 Pastoral Manager, Donna Knox said: “Last year this production had a really positive impact on our students. I am delighted that another 120 of our students will be able to benefit by seeing it and by taking part in the group discussion. Hate Crime is a highly sensitive subject and every care has been taken to ensure that the production is hard-hitting and relevant without being graphic or offensive. The issues that the production raises are entirely relevant to young people. With high profile cases around the country making the news, it is all of our duties to raise awareness of this subject.”

The production has the full support of everyone at Central Academy who will be working with partners Cumbria Constabulary to make sure that those that take part have access to any help or support they need.
