[F]our people have been sentenced for drug offences in the Penrith area.
The following defendants were sentenced today, 18th October, at Carlisle Crown Court:
- Zane Aaron Tinkler, aged 25, of Raiselands Croft, Penrith, was issued with a 12-month prison sentence suspended for two years for possession of cannabis with intent to supply. He also received 150 hours’ unpaid work, a curfew and rehabilitation.
- Mathew Graham, aged 23, of Lark Lane, Penrith, received 120 hours’ unpaid work for being concerned in the supply of cannabis.
- Stacy Ann Felton, aged 33, of Grove Court, Penrith, received 100 hours’ unpaid work for supply of cannabis.
- David Neil Harold, aged 38, of Reeth Road, Carlisle, received a £165 fine for possession of cannabis.
The offending was foiled by officers in November last year as part of a proactive crackdown on drugs supply in Penrith. On the evening of 25th November 2016, Tinkler was spotted by plain-clothed officers acting suspiciously and was found to have a small bag containing cannabis. Further enquires led to officers recovering cannabis worth a potential £5,000.
Tinkler, Felton and Harold pleaded guilty to their offences whilst Graham was convicted following a trial.
Inspector Kim Brennand said: “We are really pleased that these four individuals have been brought to justice for their offences.
“Their convictions underline the positive work we have done to target and disrupt the supply of controlled drugs in the Penrith area.
“Drugs have a devastating impact on communities, with the obvious health risks combined with associated crimes to fund drug habits. We will continue to work hard to tackle drugs supply within the community and we hope that today’s sentencing sends out a message that we will look to bring offenders to justice.
“I’d also like to take this opportunity to appeal to members of the community to report suspicious activity to the police so we can investigate.”
Anyone with information into the supply of controlled drugs is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
