[L]attimer Homes site manager Craig Wilson was Cumbria’s only regional winner at the 2017 Pride In The Job Awards held at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester.
Craig, 32, triumphed on Friday (Oct 27) at the National House Building Council’s annual north west awards in the category for companies constructing up to 50 homes a year.
His success was for the quality of work on a superb six-bedroom detached house that Mealsgate-based Lattimer Homes has built on the site of the former Lime House School at Greensyke in Cumdivock near Dalston.
Craig is the fourth different site manager from the family-run firm to have taken the regional award in recent years, following Barry Pattinson, Shaun Forrester and George Lattimer.
Craig, who lives in Aspatria, now goes through to the UK final in London in January when he will be hoping to emulate Shaun and George, who both went on to win the NHBC’s national Pride In The Job award, George winning it a record nine times.
“The house is in about half-an-acre and was sold off-plan but we have still got properties to be developed at Greensyke and other sites in north and west Cumbria,” said Craig, a bricklayer by trade who has worked for Lattimer Homes since he left Nelson Thomlinson School at Wigton in 2001.
“We are proving very consistent at these awards. It is about attention to detail, going through the build as if it is going to be your own home – basically pride in the job – and of course having consistently good tradesmen around you all the time and the confidence and belief in them,” added Craig, whose parents Karen and Jeff are both directors of Lattimer Homes. So too is his grandfather Joe, who founded the business in 1970, and Craig’s uncle George.
Craig received his Pride In The Job Seal of Excellence at the hotel on Deansgate from NHBC regional director Ian Davies. The other three regional titles went to site managers with larger firms in Lancashire and Cheshire. They were chosen from dozens of Pride In The Job quality-award winners who attended the awards lunch.
Ian said: “These awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of the best site managers in the region. The winners will go onto compete for the ultimate accolade – a Pride in the Job Supreme Award.”
