[T]HE wintry streets of Kendal will light up for the festive season on Sunday the 19th of November when Father Christmas arrives in town for the big switch-on.
There will be festive cheer and music in Abbot Hall from 2pm as the reindeer arrive and santa prepares to lead the parade from Abbot Hall from 3pm. His traditional reindeer-pulled sleigh will leave Abbot Hall at 4.10pm – arriving in the town centre in time for the switch-on ceremony at 4.45pm with the Lakeland Radio stage, just next to the Elephant Yard Shopping Centre.
The Lakeland radio stage is set to impress once again this year with a wonderful selection of fabulous, festive talent, plus The Elephant Yard Shopping Centre will be offering some very festive treats – Take your little ones to the Christmas postbox in the yard to make sure Santa gets their letters, (and await your reply!) enter the very special Christmas competition and … you might just spot an elf or two… all in the Elephant Yard Shopping Centre.
Once again a local hero will be nominated by the community to do the honours and set the lights twinkling as darkness falls, keep an eye out online for the announcement of this years local hero.
Last year’s switch-on festivities were declared a great success, with thousands of townsfolk flocking to Abbot Hall and Kendal town centre to enjoy live music, mince pies, mulled wine and festive treats.
Kendal Town Council is hoping that the sparkling occasion on Sunday the 19th of November, will be equally popular. Councillors have been busy planning extra events with support from Elephant Yard, Castle Green Hotel, The Creative Branch, Lakeland Radio, Kendal BID, Lancastrian Estates and the Westmorland Shopping Centre.
