[P]eople in Staveley and surrounding areas can pop along to their local Festive Freegle event next week to grab a freebie and give away unwanted items.

The Festive Freegle Give and Take event, on Saturday 25 November, 10am – 12 noon, at The Institute Room, Staveley Village Hall, Staveley, allows anyone to pick up any item for free, for example, toys, books, clothes and Christmas decorations, preventing goods from being sent to waste treatment.

It’s an opportunity for householders to give away items they no longer need. It’s also an opportunity to make some space for Christmas by giving away unwanted toys, Christmas jumpers, games and books. You might also be able to grab an early Christmas present or Christmas decoration.

Cllr Celia Tibble, Cumbria County Council Cabinet member for Environment, said: “The council has organised a series of Freegle Give and Take events in Cumbria this year. These events are very popular and have proved a great way to promote the reuse of unwanted household items.”

Katharine Smith, Waste Prevention Officer, Cumbria County Council, said: “The Give and Take events are great for everyone and mean that still useful items find a new home rather than ending up in the household bin. I would encourage as many people as possible to come along with items to give away and pick up a freebie too!”

Louise Belcher, of Kendal Freegle, said: “Everyone is welcome to come to our Festive Freegle Give and Take event and you don’t have to donate in order to take something.”

Any goods left over will be donated to a local charity.

There will also be a Food Bank collection point, so bring along any unopened unwanted food items that can be donated to the Food Bank. The Big Onion will also have a pop-up Community Shop during the event, so a great opportunity to buy some unique locally made items.

For further details contact Katharine Smith, Waste Prevention Officer, Cumbria County Council on 07831 205382 or [email protected]

Freebie fans are also being encouraged to use Freegle’s new mobile app – an easy and simply way to use your local Freegle group. This can be downloaded from www.ilovefreegle.org/mobile/
