[T]he critically acclaimed play The Terminal Velocity of Snowflakes by Cumbrian born writer Nina Berry returns to Live Theatre, Newcastle this winter following its sell out success in December 2016. The play is performed in Live Theatre’s intimate Studio and runs from Wednesday 22 November to Saturday 16 December.
Nina, originally from Greysouthen, near Cockermouth, Cumbria moved to Newcastle to study English Literature and Creative Writing at Northumbria University. Since graduating Nina has written several short plays for Live Theatre. The Terminal Velocity of Snowflakes is her first full-length commission for Live Theatre, and was first produced in 2016, when it had a sold-out run and gathered audience and critical acclaim. It received a five star review from The Guardian, almost unprecedented for a writer’s debut play, who called it ‘An exquisite, adorable, debut.’ The Guardian.
The play follows Charlie and Rosie who are two people in many places. From youth to old age, from Trafalgar Square to Chillingham Road, The Terminal Velocity of Snowflakes takes a touching look at what it means to grow up, fall in love and how the tiniest, most seemingly insignificant detail can change eternity. Or then again maybe not.
Nina Berry, Writer said: “Seeing my first full length play come to life at Live Theatre last year, was an ambition of mine since I first began writing, and I was delighted that audiences and critics loved the show. I am overjoyed that after its success last year that it is returning with new cast member, Daniel Watson, and with additional visuals from The Media Workshop and can be seen by wider audiences this year.”
The production, which started life as a twenty-minute short play performed as part of Live Theatre’s Christmas Adventures in December 2015, was then co-directed by Max Roberts and Graeme Thompson in 2016. This year Graeme will be directing the piece which is a beautiful tale asking if two paths in time can ever be the same.

Heather Carroll will be reprising her role as Rosie. She will be joined by Daniel Watson who will be making his first full length debut at Live Theatre. Daniel, who is a graduate of Project A at Theatre Royal Newcastle, will play Charlie. Daniel replaces Dean Bone who is currently on stage in the West End in his role as Jordan alongside Stephen Tompkinson and John Bowler in Live Theatre’s production of Patrick Marber’s The Red Lion which has transferred from Newcastle to Trafalgar Studios, London.
