[T]he spectacular annual Brampton Christmas lights switch-on was given an extra boost this year thanks to funding from Story Homes, the award-winning housebuilder behind local developments Edenholme Park and Eden Gate.
Story Homes’ donation was used to fund stilt walkers and the main attraction of the event – camels ridden by the Three Wise Men as part of a full nativity group from Brampton Primary School. The parade, also featuring a donkey and Santa with his sleigh, as well as members of the local Rainbows and Brownies groups, went down a storm with over 2,000 attendees.
David Moorat, chairman of Brampton Parish Council, said: “The Brampton Christmas lights switch-on is something that residents of the town and further afield truly look forward to. While it undoubtedly spreads a bit of festive cheer and teaches children the true meaning of Christmas, it also has a real commercial benefit. Local businesses open their doors to the crowds, who come to support us from neighbouring towns, and this really helps our economy.
“We’re so grateful to Story Homes for their donation this year – without support from such companies the event simply couldn’t go ahead. And it’s safe to say the camels were a hit with the children!”
Ian Storey, Managing Director for Story Homes in Cumbria, said: “We’re delighted to have contributed to such a wonderful event that brings smiles to children’s faces at this special time of year while helping to support the local community. It was a hugely successful day and we’d like to wish the residents of Brampton a very merry Christmas.”
Story Homes made the donation as part of its ‘Future Story’ scheme, which aims to help charities and community organisations that surround its developments – in this case, Edenholme Park in Cumwhinton and Eden Gate in Houghton. The developer accepts sponsorship applications via its website all year round, with a regional committee reviewing submissions on a quarterly basis.
