Before and After: Ian’s tremendous weight loss was in aid of Muscular Dystrophy

[C]arus Green Golf Club’s current Captain, Ian Fairhurst, has hit his ambitious target to lose three stone, and raised vital funds for Muscular Dystrophy in the process. The 58-year-old from Kendal, set himself the weight-loss challenge after signing up for ‘Slimming World’ in August. Having now lost a staggering three stone, two pounds and raised £265 for the charity, Ian is keen to thank his supporters at Carus Green for their on-going support and encouragement.

“I’ve struggled with my weight for a number of years and now with a young Grand-daughter, I was keen to get myself fit and healthy again,” he explains. “I’ve always been a bit of a yo-yo dieter, but Slimming World seems to have done the trick. I’m not stopping quite yet, as I still have a further two stone to lose, but I’m delighted that I have met my target. I raised the money for a worthy cause by setting up a ‘Just Giving’ page and through individual donations; I also donated a pound myself for each pound lost. Everyone has been so supportive and I’d like to say ‘thanks’ to them all!”

Ian, who has been a member at Carus for more than four years and plays off a handicap of 13, has been playing golf since the age of 16 and will hand over the ‘Captain’ baton in February 2018.

“It’s been such a tremendous year, not just with the weight-loss, but holding the position of Captain at Carus Green has been very special,” he said. “Getting to know members and visitors alike has been great fun, with the Triby Tour in June a particular highlight for me.”

Donations can still be made on Ian’s Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/ian-fairhurst
