Hotel guests turn the tables with festive food swap

Lakeside Hotel

[G]uests at one Lake District hotel will be turning the tables on Christmas Day, as they serve staff their very own festive feast.

As December 25th beckons, Lakeside Hotel & Spa will be continuing its long tradition of inviting guests to serve up Christmas dinner to anyone working at the hotel on the big day.

The now annual custom has been running for more than 30 years and the hotel says there is always a long list of people wanting to sign up for the scheme. After the usual sit-down dinner for guests at lunchtime, volunteers will help the Head Chef ‘plate up’ individual meals and bring them out for staff. Some guests will even be wine waiters for the festive workforce.

Marcus Newhouse, the hotel’s Senior House Manager comments, “This special Christmas tradition started as a light-hearted way for guests to get into the festive spirit and say thank you to loyal staff working over this busy time of year. After more than three decades, the idea is still going strong!

“Of course, it’s completely voluntary, but we often have guests literally queuing up to serve the staff Christmas feast. It really says a lot about our customers and their willingness to spread some seasonal goodwill.”

Santa Claus will also be arriving by rowing boat on Christmas morning, complete with treats for all the children enjoying their Christmas holidays at Lakeside.
