[C]hristmas preparation has come to an abrupt halt for RNLI volunteers at Workington. The crews were called away again yesterday morning (20 December) to offer assistance at sea. It is the third call out this week, after two early morning calls on 18 and 19 December.
Yesterday morning, the inshore lifeboat was called to assist two fishing boat which were in danger of sinking. The boats had begun taking on water in Workington inner harbor.
The inshore lifeboat launched just before 9am with salvage pumps on board. The lifeboat arrived on scene and the volunteer crew began pumping water from the vessels, but the tide was quickly flooding and nothing could be done to save the vessels.
The lifeboat returned to station at 9.40am.
