[N]igel John Mills, the Chairman and co-founder of The Lakes Distillery has been appointed a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in the 2018 New Year’s Honours List.
Mills received the commendation in recognition of co-founding The Lakes Distillery and his services to entrepreneurship in the North-East and Cumbria.
“I am honoured, humbled and thrilled to have been awarded a CBE and that entrepreneurship in Cumbria and the North East has been recognised at such a high level.
“Whilst working with entrepreneurs in the North-East and Cumbria, I see the passion, the desire the history, the courage and the ability to turn these regions around and transform these challenges into opportunities.
“I want to thank everyone who has supported me, and I look forward to the future of entrepreneurship and business growth in Cumbria and the North-East,” said Nigel Mills.
With Nigel Mills and Co-Founder, Paul Currie working together The Lakes Distillery has been able to achieve great success in the past 3 years, and in 2018 there is no stopping their journey.
The Lakes Distillery has created several world firsts including The ONE in 2013, the only British Isles Blended Whisky, soon to be followed in Spring 2018 with the release of Steel Bonnets, a blend of the finest English and Scotch single malt whiskies.

In Autumn 2018, The Lakes Distillery will reveal The Lakes Single Malt Quatrefoil collection spanning four years to 2021. This exclusive whisky will embody the DNA of the Distillery with four named bottles; Faith, Hope, Luck and Love.
The Lakes Distillery will have welcomed half a million visitors by the end of 2018, including tour groups from Asia, Australia and America, as well as guests from neighbouring European countries.
