[A] DRUNKEN man who made chilling threats to teenagers while carrying a large knife has been jailed for 10 months.
Andrew Christopher McMullen, 30, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today (MON) after admitting affray and possessing a bladed article.
McMullen was said to have approached a group of young people in Workington on December 28. In a “loud and angry” voice he announced: “I have got a knife.” He then threatened to stab petrified members of the group, and stated: “I will slit your throats.”
McMullen was found in a social club by police who saw the nine to 10-inch blade sticking out of a jacket pocket.
The court heard of McMullen’s “distressed state” at the time, close to the anniversary of his twin brother’s murder in January last year. It was said by his barrister that he could get back on track and lead a productive life.
Imposing an immediate jail term, Judge James Adkin told McMullen, of Devonshire Street, Workington: “You terrified those teenagers, who saw you drunk and in possession of a knife.”
