Carlisle Crown Court

A MAN who tried to break into two Carlisle houses in the dead of night has been jailed by a judge.

The city’s crown court heard how a witness saw Lee Stephen Carr in a neighbour’s back garden at around 3am on January 25.

Carr, high on drink and medication, was seen to try the doors of two Stanwix properties – one of which contained sleeping occupants – and also nearby vehicles.

Police arrived and arrested the 26-year-old, who later said in an interview he had been seeking shelter that night after being “kicked out” of his mother’s home.

Carr, of Abbotsford Drive, Kingstown, Carlisle, admitted two charges of attempted burglary.

Recorder Julie Clemitson heard the former heroin addict had 80 offences on his criminal record. However, he was seeking to “break the cycle and sort himself out”, and had resolved difficulties with his mother.

Recorder Clemitson jailed him for a total of six months.
