Over 150 golfers, dozens of local businesses and a dedicated team of volunteers came together in May to raise £18,839 for Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland.

The Charity Golf Day, at Carlisle Golf Club, was organised by Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland supporter Simon Long, with the help of his close friends, Mike Nelson, Tim Davies and Richard Dixon.

Simon’s family experienced first-hand the compassionate care provided by the charity and the event was inspired by his wish to give something back and help ensure other local families can receive the same support.

Simon said: “When my wife Margaret received care from Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland, we experienced first-hand the compassion, dignity and kindness shown by every member of the team.

“Organising this golf day was our way of saying thank you while helping ensure other local families can receive the same incredible support. I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone who supported the event, and I’m incredibly grateful to every sponsor, volunteer, golfer and donor who made it such an unforgettable day.”

Shirley Reveley, chair of trustees of Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland, added: “The support we received for our Charity Golf Day has been nothing short of phenomenal. To see so many local businesses, volunteers and golfers come together to support hospice care in the home is incredibly humbling.

“Every pound raised will help us continue providing expert care and support to patients and families across north and east Cumbria when they need us most.

“On behalf of everyone at the charity, thank you to every single person who played a part in making the day such a remarkable success.”

The day would not have been possible without a group of local businesses which sponsored the event, the charity said.

It thanked Life Stream UK, Print Point, Used Cars 4 Less, Story Homes (Cumbria), Butler Accountancy, Cartmell Shepherd, Holesfoot Wedding & Events Venue, The Travel Team, Gelt Gifts, HG Associates, Truly Independent, Minihan McAlister Limited, Downland Marketing Ltd, AB Fabrications, Architects Plus (UK) Ltd, Cooke Aquaculture, Youngs RPS, Peacock Precision, PJ Developments Carlisle, Carlisle Computer Systems, AB Energy Centre, Coulthard Properties, Carlisle Scaffolding Ltd, Bell Electrical, Eden Systems (Cumbria) Ltd, Warwick Mill Business Village, Agrimin Limited, Premier Management Services UK Ltd, SASPT, A Star Lawns and Black Box Architects, and more.

Nineteen volunteers generously gave their time to help make the event such a success, including staff from Cumberland Building Society, Westmorland and Furness Council, Cartmell Shepherd, Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland staff, trustees and many other supporters who worked tirelessly throughout the day.

Although the event has now concluded, donations are still continuing to arrive.

Following the success of this year’s event, plans are already underway for next year and the Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland Charity Golf Day will return on Friday May 28 2027.
