[N]orth Lakes School, the Penrith Platinum Sing Up Singing School, are once again flying the flag for Cumbria as they ‘Spread a little Singing’ for National Sing Up Day on Wednesday 14th March.

The day will begin with a special Sing Up Day warm-up to limber up for a day of song! During the day, everyone at North Lakes celebrated in a variety of ways;

  • Every taught lesson begin with song;
  • Parents and children were encouraged to share their favourite songs with each other;
  • There will be singing in the playground, in the corridors, on the bus on the way to school
  • Choir members were wearing their special Sing Up Platinum T Shirts;
  • The school will be tweeting their day with #singupday.

In addition, throughout the day, children will be rehearing dance moves, and BSL signing to this year’s Sing Up Day anthem ‘Be The Change’ by Emily Barden.

“North Lakes is very proud to be a Platinum Sing Up school, we have worked hard on this year’s song with actions, and BSL Signing and whole school are singing in various harmonies and parts” said Martyn Soulsby, Music and Singing Subject Leader.

The day will conclude with a special celebratory sing where members of our whole school community will come together; the school’s new singing leaders will be announced and awarded with their prestigious badges – there will be over 30 in school who lead part singing, motivate teams and act as singing role models. Parents and friends of the school are invited to join with the celebration where children will perform and record their version of the Sing Up Day anthem ready to send to Sing Up HQ to be included in the National Digi-Choir.

Mike Pincombe, Headteacher said: “As an inclusive school that works hard to support children as learners and as good citizens, singing is very important to us. Singing brings us together and is at the heart of school life, and Sing Up Day is a fun important expression of this.”

The Sing Up Day Celebration takes place between 2.40pm & 3.20 pm on Wednesday 14th March

In addition to Sing Up Day, North Lakes School Choir recently ran a workshop at the LOC in the Lakes NHS Conference at Rheged where the children were sharing the benefits of singing on Learning, Heath, Education and Life!

North Lakes School is the home of Penrith Music Centre – Delivered by BlueJam Arts and supported by Cumbria Music Education Hub.
