[T]he Mayor of Workington, Cllr Ann Bales, raised a total of £1,009.50 at the Civic Dinner for her chosen charities – Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Team Isla.  The money raised came from ticket sales, raffle and donations.

The Civic dinner, which was held on Friday 23rd February at Hunday Manor Hotel, was attended by 62 people who all enjoyed a delicious meal.

Guests included; current and past Mayors of Allerdale, Workington Town Council Councillors, The Mayor of Workington’s Chaplain, representatives from the Lifeboat, The Royal British Legion, Carnegie Singers, Westfield Housing, Workington Fire Station, Workington Rotary, Workington Reds, Cumbria County Council and Derwent Rotary.

Cllr Bales said: “I am delighted that so many people showed their support and attended my dinner.  Thank you to everyone who came and for all the donations given for my charity, I am overwhelmed.”

Gemma Williamson from Cystic Fibrosis Trust attended the dinner and gave an emotional speech to all guests.  Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition affecting more than 10,400 people in the UK.  The gene affected by CF controls the movement of salt and water in and out of cells affecting the lungs, digestive system and other organs, causing a wide range of challenging symptoms affecting the entire body.
