[M]EMBERS of a criminal gang who burgled outbuildings in remote Alston Moor have been locked up for a total of almost 10 years.
Twenty-year-old Charlie Dunn, Jack Setchell, 19, and Robbie Lee Simpson, 23, travelled from their native Hartlepool and forced their way into two secure storage buildings on July 18.
They struck first in the Garrigill area, forcing entry to a locked unit from which high value tools, fuel and other equipment valued at £4,620 were snatched. They then broke into a second outbuilding, near Alston, pinching an air rifle, a camouflaged security camera and car battery.
Carlisle Crown Court heard much of the stolen loot was recovered. However, some metal items and diesel were hurled by Setchell into the path of police who gave chase when they spotted the gang’s Ford Transit being driven without lights in darkness near their home town.
Dunn, Setchell and Simpson each admitted two burglary charges. Simpson also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, and Setchell admitted causing a danger to road users by obstruction.
Setchell, of Seaton Lane, Hartlepool, was jailed for 48 months having also admitted dangerous driving and aggravated taking of a Range Rover Evoque last March.
Simpson, of Fremantle Grove, Hartlepool, received 36 months’ custody, and Dunn, of Wordsworth Avenue, was locked up for 28 months. Setchell and Dunn were each handed driving bans, and must pass extended tests.
