[T]he clinicians and commissioners involved in work to improve stroke services in North Cumbria would like to meet with members of the local community to discuss how the services will be implemented.
Members of the community are invited to a public event which has been set up by the Stroke Association, taking place on Tuesday 17th April from 2pm to 4pm at Botcherby Community Centre in Carlisle.
The work follows on from the decision made following public consultation in March 2017, to develop a Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for patients in North Cumbria to be seen by a specialist team in a dedicated unit, in line with best practice.
At the event, Dr Paul Davies, Consultant Stroke Physician at North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust, will discuss the decision to develop the Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit, and what the service will deliver.
This will include updates on the proposed stroke pathway, the planned workforce of the Unit, and what progress has been made over the past year.
Members of the community will then be able to participate in group discussions about the developments.
The clinicians and commissioners involved in the work are keen to hear what concerns members of the public have, as well as what opportunities they think the changes can bring.
Dr Paul Davies said: “The event is a great opportunity for people from the local community to come along and find out more about the progress that has been made, as well as the issues faced in implementing the specialist stroke unit.’
“We are keen to hear what concerns people would like us to consider as the new services are implemented. This may include their own personal experiences of using stroke services and what they feel were important factors throughout that.”
The event is open to everyone and begins at 2pm on Tuesday 17 April at Botcherby Community Centre, Victoria Road, Carlisle, CA1 2UE.
