[T]wo men have died following a road traffic collision in Whitehaven.
Police were called at 9.32pm yesterday (1st May) following a one vehicle collision involving a silver Vauxhall Astra on New Road.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The vehicle occupants were a 28-year-old man and a 30-year-old man, they were pronounced dead at the scene.”
A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 9:34pm firefighters were called to a collision involving a car and a lamp post on New Road in Whitehaven.
“On arrival crews found that two people were trapped inside the vehicle.
“They used specialist cutting, lifting and lighting equipment to extricate the two casualties from the car and then handed them over to the care of paramedics.
“Firefighters then made the scene safe and were in attendance for around three hours. Police were also in attendance.”
Police appeal for any witnesses to the collision to contact 101 quoting incident number 206 of 1st May. Police would also like to hear from anyone who saw a silver Vauxhall Astra travelling in the area prior to the collision.
