Skelton Show – the traditional show with a modern attitude

Stannage Stunt Team Fireball

[O]rganisers of the popular Skelton Show scheduled for Saturday 7th July this year, are delighted to announce that in addition to arranging an action packed day of entertainment, stalls, traditional livestock classes, gifts and crafts tents, we’ve also been busy during the long winter months developing a new look website with easy to use online entry forms. We might be a traditional show with a heritage tracing back to the late 1800’s but we are happily embracing new technology!

Launched on Monday 14th May, the revamped website now provides an easy to use online booking form for the horse entry classes, as well as the trade stand, foodhall and gift and craft entry applications. This allows potential exhibitors and competitors to book in at a time convenient to them, as open 24/7, via a safe and secure website which we believe now provides a great customer service. Visitors to the show, either locally or from afar, will also be able to book their show entry tickets in advance.

To launch the new functionality website, the organisers are offering advance visitor discount tickets with a saving of £2 per person during May, reducing to a £1 off in June so book now to take advantage of this worthwhile saving.

Held in the delightful setting of the Old Park at Hutton-in the-Forest, this traditional country show has earned a reputation for being an excellent day out in the countryside for all the family.

Show Director John Slee comments “We have another action-packed day planned to provide even more entertainment and enjoyment this year. We are delighted to announce that our main ring entertainment will feature the fearless and amazing Stannage International Stunt Team. A truly family affair, the stunt team – Mark, Janine and Aaron – have toured the world for over 15 years, bringing excitement to audiences of all ages with manoeuvres involving car, motorbike, fire and high fall stunts. As a complete contrast and a somewhat calmer and more elegant event will be the Concours D’Elegance equestrian display. This was a new class at last year’s show and is one where the riders dress up (often in long flowing dresses) and are judged for their elegance – the display will explain what the judges look for in a winning entry. Other attractions include the popular Scurry Racing as well as the fun Terrier Racing spectacles. Music will be provided by the Penrith Town Band.”

Chairman Andrew Bargh, who is delighted with the new website and its online form capabilities, is also keen to reiterate the traditional agricultural aspects which are at the heart of Skelton show. He adds “As well as a large selection of cattle, sheep (including the new Shetland, Ryland and Any Native Breed Sheep classes) and horses, there is a marquee full of classes for children, cooking, painting, floral arts, vegetables and walking sticks. Other attractions include the Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling, a dog show, pony sports, over 120 trade stands plus the first qualifying round of the 2018 Cumbria Young Handler competition, the idea of our livestock secretary Jane Crocker, which will be held at a number of local shows throughout the summer – with the final held at Hesket Newmarket show in September.”

Our ever popular horse section continues to grow and now has a new Equestrian Secretary: Kelly Gale. For advice and enquiries regarding the extensive equestrian section, please contact Kelly (details on the website) and remember all class bookings can now be made direct online via our new (safe and secure) website.

The extensive [email protected] Food Festival and the expanded Gifts and Crafts tents provide a wide range of local produce to taste and purchase plus the Fur and Feathers tent, family Dog Show and the Vintage Vehicle Section all ensure there is plenty to do and see for all the family. A wide variety of food and bar facilities all add to the enjoyment of the day.

Treasurer Beverley Bargh adds: “We have maintained our admission prices this year and we are confident the show will once again provide excellent value and entertainment for all age groups – a great day out in the countryside”.

Admission charges for 2018 (including parking) are Adults £12.50, OAP’s and Youths 11-21 £7.50 and kids under 11 free. But remember advanced discounted tickets are currently available on the website.

Schedules are now available from the secretary Mrs Antonia Reid on 01768 484122 or visit our website for more information and to book your entry in online.
