Visitors to the first Lake District Book Festival in Cartmel this month will be able to enjoy some of the best of Cumbria’s food and drink while feasting on literature.
At the heart of the inaugural festival will be the Food Street, curated by the powerhouse foodie pairing of Lorraine Stanton and Marian Graveson.
Lorraine and Marian have worked together at previous events, including the Westmorland County Show, where Lorraine runs the Food Theatre and Marian manages the Food Hall traders.
Both are passionate about great food and drink and championing local producers and local talent.
Food Street will be made up of a mouth-watering mix of hand-picked independent businesses, offering everything from local pasture-fed, slow-grown, organic beef burgers, authentic Thai dishes, and fresh wood-fired pizzas to homemade cakes, brownies, blondies, roulades, jams, and chutneys.
Speciality coffee, craft beer, liqueur and Italian gelato will also be on offer.
It will also showcase some of the village’s best food and drink courtesy of pop-ups from Cartmel Cheeses and Home by Simon Rogan.
Festival director Charlotte Fairbairn said: “We’re thrilled to welcome such a fantastic group of local traders to this year’s festival.
“Books and food bring people together in similar ways – they tell stories, spark conversations, and create memorable experiences.
“Both the festival and Food Street are all about discovery, whether that’s a new author, a new flavour, or a unique handmade gift, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone.”
Lorraine added: “Marian and I are thrilled that many of the traders attending the Food Street are from the multi-award-winning popular Kendal Farmers Market.
“They’re hugely passionate about what they do and deeply rooted in the local community, so it’s fantastic to give them a new platform to highlight and sell their excellent produce. Come for the stories, stay for the flavours!”
The three-day festival starts on June 12.
