ILB Vision of Tamworth (Barrow RNLI)

[V]olunteer crew from the RNLI’s Barrow station launched their inshore lifeboat yesterday evening, Sunday 27th May 2018, to assist in a rescue at the northern end of the Walney Channel.

The call for assistance came from HM Coastguard at Holyhead at 8-10pm. The information received was that two members of the public were stuck on a sandbank north of Jubilee Bridge and were being cut off by the incoming tide. The crew was paged and the inshore lifeboat, ‘Vision of Tamworth’, was launched at 8-22pm with Dave Kell, Ben Jackson and Alan Cleasby on board.

The lifeboat proceeded along Walney Channel but before reaching the scene information was received from HM Coastguard that the two casualties and their dog had been recovered safely by a team from Cumbria Fire Service. There was a multi-agency response to the incident with Furness Coastguard and the North West Ambulance Service also in attendance.

The ‘Vision of Tamworth’ then returned to the lifeboat station at 8-45 pm where it was made ready for the next launch.

The wind at the time of the incident was easterly, Force 3, and the high tide was due at 11-14 pm with a predicted height of 8.8 metres.

With the current spell of good weather set to continue for the next few days the RNLI urges everyone visiting the coast to respect the water and be aware of the tides and local hazards.
