[A] woman is in hospital after falling from a bridge and colliding with a car on a busy road in Bolton.

At around 1.15pm today, Tuesday 29 May 2018, police were called to reports of a collision on the A666, St Peters Way.

A woman in her 20s was on the bridge over the A666 when she fell into lane two of the southbound carriageway.

She was then involved in a collision with a white Toyota Yaris and was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the Yaris remained at the scene.

Police Constable Phil Shaw of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “There were a lot of people in the area this lunchtime and we’ve already spoken to a number of witnesses but we still need those who haven’t yet made contact to do so.

“The road was closed in both directions for some time to allow us to examine the scene but we’re still working to build a full picture of what has happened.

“There may have been vehicles with dashcam footage – please get in contact with us with any information or footage that could help us.”

Anyone with information should contact GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting reference number 939 of 29/05/18 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
