Local Legion branch represents Brampton at GP90

[T]he town of Brampton will be represented at The Royal British Legion’s “Grand Pilgrimage 90” (GP90) by their President and Standard Bearer.

GP901 is the Legion’s recreation of the 1928“Grand Pilgrimage” when, a decade after the end of WW1, veterans and war widows visited the battlefields of the Somme and Ypres before marching to the Menin Gate in Ypres on 8th August 19282.

The President of Brampton Branch of The Royal British Legion, Brian Pease, (more often seen in his alter-garb as Brampton Town Crier) and Standard Bearer, Paul Murray, will be taking the branch’s Standard to the event. Costing £1,000, to which our representatives have made a significant personal contribution, the branch are hoping to refill their coffers with a Car Boot Sale being held at the Market Place and Moot Hall, Brampton on Sunday 17th June.

Chairman, Roy Burns, says; “We are a small, yet very active, branch, with limited funds and we now need to make up the difference. Brian submits numerous charitable contributions from his appearances as Town Crier and Paul makes a tremendous contribution to the Poppy Appeal with organising our annual Honour Walk at Remembrance time.

“64 men of Brampton, let alone those of surrounding parishes, made the ultimate sacrifice in The Great War and it is right that we honour them in our participation in this event on behalf of the people of Brampton. For the WW1 centenary this November we are working with Brampton Parish Council on a number of activities for which, inevitably, funding will be required in support of the planning and activists whose time and effort is for free.”

Brampton Branch’s Car Boot sale will take place at the Market Place, Brampton, on Sunday 17th June.

Opening times 9.30am to 12.30, set-up from 8.30am. Cars £5 each; a limited number of tables are available within the Moot Hall. For more information contact either the Vice Chairman, Tim Cheetham, or our Poppy Appeal Organiser, Alison Cheetham (see details below).
