Lee Cogan

[A] MAN who attacked his former partner and left her lying in a pool of blood on her kitchen floor has been jailed.

Lee Brian Cogan, 33, smashed his ex over the head with a chair which then broke after the pair had been drinking in her West Cumbria home following his sister’s funeral.

Carlisle Crown Court heard the victim had smeared her son’s name on the ground in blood following the violence, on May 3, in fear she “might die”. She suffered a wound to her forehead.

Cogan threatened a concerned neighbour who called at her property after the incident. He was then said to have told police: “I’m going to admit it. I did smash her face in. It was my sister’s funeral today and I think I went a bit radge.

“I’m an idiot.”

Cogan, of Church Road, Harrington, Workington, admitted unlawful wounding and was said to be remorseful for the crime although had no real recollection of it.

He was jailed for 30 months today (THURS) by Judge James Adkin.
