[N]orth West businesses looking to start or expand exporting efforts are invited to attend a series of events run by the Department for International Trade’s (DIT) ‘You Can Export’ initiative, as part of its Exporting is GREAT campaign.

This includes a ‘How to Thrive at Exhibitions’ masterclass at Castle Green Hotel in Kendal on June 12, and an exhibition on Managing Agents and Distributors at the Holiday Inn in Runcorn on June 27.

The first event in Kendal will offer businesses advice on overcoming barriers, selecting the right event at which to exhibit, setting clear objectives and budgets, how to motivate staff and effective follow-up techniques for securing deals.

The second event is designed to help firms learn about finding the right agents and distributors. Attendees will learn about what should be included in an agreement contract, how to explore different routes to market and how to set effective targets.

Both events form part of DIT’s ‘You Can Export’ series that welcomes businesses that are looking to secure their first overseas sales, or more experienced exporters looking to develop a strategy to grow and secure contracts in new overseas markets.

Paul Stowers, Head of UK regions, North West, said: “The ‘You Can Export’ series provides current and potential exporters with the insight to encourage international success. It has been designed to support businesses and highlight ways to make the exporting experience as straightforward and productive as possible.

“It gives newcomers the chance to start their exporting journey on the right foot, while more experienced businesses can pick up dozens of new suggestions, ideas and tips that will help them overcome the barriers often associated with exporting.

“If you’re thinking about starting to trade overseas or looking to further your knowledge of potential overseas partners and markets, please come along. We also have a team of dedicated International Trade Advisers on the ground across the North West ready to answer and support you when you need.

“Whether it’s a question about taxation in a new market or simply advice on where to start, we’ve already supported hundreds of businesses across the North West and are dedicated to continuing to help firms reap the benefits of exporting.”

DIT as also has staff based in markets around the world. Alongside the regionally-based team of International Trade Advisers, they are ready to provide businesses with expert trade advice, market know-how and practical support for  international growth.
