Important update on Windermere Ferry

Windermere Ferry

[A]n alternative ferry service continues to operate at approximately 40 minute intervals from either side of Windermere while Windermere Car Ferry is out of service until repairs can be undertaken.

The Cross Lakes Experience service sails from Windermere Lake Cruises’ jetties in the heart of Bowness to Ferry House on the lake’s western shore.

Extended sailing times will operate from Monday 11th June with this service running daily between 9am and 6pm. Departures are as follows:

Depart Bowness – 9.00am, 10.00am, 10.40am, 11.20am, 12.00pm, 12.40pm, 2.00pm, 2.40pm, 3.20pm, 4.00pm, 4.40pm, 6.00pm

Depart Ferry House – 9.20am, 10.20am, 11.00am, 11.40am, 12.20pm, 1.00pm, 2.20pm, 3.00pm, 3.40pm, 4.20pm, 5.00pm, 6.20pm

Journey times are 15 minutes Bowness to Ferry House, 20 minutes Ferry House to Bowness

Single fares are-

  • Adult £3.10
  • Child £1.85

Windermere Lake Cruises Local Resident Discount Card Holders only pay 50p (single journey), holders of Windermere Ferry season tickets will be carried free of charge on this service.

Please note that from Friday 8th June this service will be unsuitable for cycles, however Windermere Lake Cruises will endeavour to operate a special Bike friendly vessel between Bowness and Ferry House on days when availability allows. A Cumbria County Council spokesman said: “We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause and are working closely with our partners to get the Windermere Car Ferry back in operation as soon as possible.”
