[A] CONVICTED sex offender who slept rough in a Penrith park has been jailed for flouting the terms of a strict court order.
Mark King, 46, was made subject to sex offender registration requirements by a judge in 2012 as part of his punishment for an offence of exposure.
This means that upon release from any prison sentence, until 2022, King has to declare a fixed address or, if homeless, must notify police of that fact within a specified time.
However, Carlisle Crown Court heard today (FRI) how King was found in mid-May at Penrith’s Castle Park, where he had been sleeping rough.
He had failed to inform police about his homelessness within a required timescale, and was arrested. This was said to have been the ninth time he had flouted the notification requirements, and came hot on the heels of his release from a two-year prison term imposed for a previous double breach.
Jailing King for 14 months, Recorder Louise Brandon said: “You have an appalling criminal record, particularly in terms of compliance with court orders.
“You have shown a flagrant disregard for the requirements.”
