[A] MAN who attacked his ex-partner at his Lake District home has been jailed.
Benjamin Davis Bland, 35, was handed a three-year prison term today (FRI) after he admitted an actual bodily harm assault on Louise Murphy, and criminal damage. This occurred at his Helm Close flat in Bowness-on-Windermere on January 26.
Carlisle Crown Court heard how Bland punched, stamped on and strangled Miss Murphy after he began drinking. She was so badly beaten her daughter initially didn’t recognise her.
After throwing Miss Murphy “all over the place”, Bland then delivered a forceful kick to his victim’s groin which left her with serious internal damage.
“I honestly believed I was going to die when I was attacked,” Miss Murphy said in a statement she read in court. Speaking of “terrible nightmares” and profound physical and mental impact, she added: “I am a shell of the person I used to be.”
Recorder Ciaran Rankin jailed Bland and banned him from contacting Miss Murphy indefinitely.
“She says the pain was so severe she thought something had ruptured,” said Recorder Rankin. “It was an act of wanton, jealous bullying.”
