[T]rading Standards have received reports of a man cold calling in the Penrith and possible surrounding areas offering to sell knives, cutlery and other kitchen equipment.
A spokesman for Cumbria Trading Standards said: “Consumers should be extremely cautious when approached by any doorstep callers offering to sell goods or conduct work on their property.
“Often these sellers prey on the most vulnerable who are less likely to refuse what may appear to be a bargain.
“Trading Standards advice is to always say ‘NO’ to any cold callers and we ask that you look out for elderly or vulnerable family, friends and neighbours.”
