[A] PENRITH man accused of plotting revenge against somebody involved in a previous criminal case will go on trial later this year.
Christopher John Evans, 23, faced one allegation when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court earlier today (FRI).
Evans pleaded not guilty to a charge which alleges that he threatened to take revenge. It alleges that he did so knowing or believing that a man had assisted in an investigation and given evidence in previous court proceedings.
The charge further alleges that Evans “threatened to lure” that man to a “remote location, where he could be attacked”, which caused the male to fear that such an act would be carried out.
In view of Evans’ denial, a timetable for the case was outlined during today’s short hearing by prosecutor Brendan Burke. A trial – estimated to last two to three days – was listed for September 26 at the crown court.
In the meantime, Evans, of Greystoke Park Road, Penrith, was remanded in custody by Judge Barbara Forrester.
