A West Cumbrian golf extravaganza has raised £22,000 for charities.
170 golfers teed off on May 9 at Workington Golf Club, including celebrities ex-Welsh international footballer John Hartson, Ex-British Lions RU captain Finlay Calder and YouTube sensation Kevin Lynch The Referee.
Now in its fourth year, it is organised by a dedicated volunteer committee who spend 12 months putting the event together.
Its main beneficiary is Prostate Cancer UK.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men – with one in eight men getting the disease. And if you’re over 50 or you have a family history of the disease, then your risk is even higher.
But the earlier you find it, the easier it is to treat.

Over the last 12 months, the golf day and other events have raised £17,000 for Prostate Cancer UK and other charities.
It was organised by Andrew Clemence, Howard Nicholson, Kelly Morgan, Carl Metherell and Ken Harper.
The event raised over £14,000, with the total added to by a sporting dinner and Christmas raffle from July last year.

Myers & Bowman provided vehicles to make the first tee special for golfers.
The golf day was supported by sponsors Westinghouse, Amentum, Atkins Realis, William King Construction, Nrl, Altrad, Maryport Bodyworks, Myers & Bowmans, PTS, Unite, GM and Johnny Graham, among others.

Organisers also thanked Richard Leach and Richard Mattinson, of Whitehaven Golf Club, Alan Oliver, of Silloth Golf Club, hole sponsors and people who donated auction items and raffle prizes.
They added: “The support and generosity of everyone as resulted in a donation of £15,000 being made to Prostate Cancer UK and £3,500 being split between charities including Children with Cancer, Andy’s Man Club, Alzheimer’s Society, Arthritis UK, Parkinsons, Meningitis Now and the Epilepsy Society.

“Westinghouse have also kindly made it possible for those who wish to undergo PSA testing at as early a stage as possible.”
