[K]eswick School has an established reputation for extra-curriculum music and boast a number of groups and ensembles that perform on a public stage.
The school string ensemble is sponsored by the Keswick Music Society and the Guitar Ensemble is sponsored by the Keswick Lions.
Both these groups performed at the Theatre by the Lake in a concert hosted by the Keswick Music Society and were well-received. The Guitar Ensemble won an award in the “Shake It Up” National Competition, coming away with a trophy and £700, for their rendition of a piece arranged by their musical director, Iain Wilkinson. The school also has a long-established reputation for their jazz band, which often plays at the Keswick Jazz festival and for the illumination of the Christmas lights.
On 13th July, Threlkeld Village Hall will be hosting a public concert by musicians from the school, titled “Music for a Summer Evening”. The concert will include classical pieces and some lighter work by the String Ensemble, directed by Louise Peacock. Some solo and duets are also expected. The award-winning guitar ensemble, directed by Iain Wilkinson, will be playing a mix of music genres. Finally, the Jazz Band, directed by Colin Brind will be taking to the stage. The concert provides an opportunity for these budding musicians to perform on a public stage and should prove to be an entertaining evening.
