[A] new principal has been appointed to take over at Kendal Dance Academy.

Megan Tomlinson (28) exchanged contracts as the new business owner and Principal, following the sale of Kendal Dance Academy(KDA) earlier this month. The school was opened in January 2017, offering affordable and flexible access to dance and musical theatre training to children and adults in South Lakeland.

Megan, 28 from Heysham (Lancashire), has been teaching at the school for the past eighteen months and wanted to build on the success of the school. An experienced professional dancer herself, Megan has danced since the age of 3 and now lives in Milnthorpe with her husband Reece, her son Lucas (8), stepdaughter Lissie (7) and their daughter Maggie (2).

“First off, I would like to thank the ex-Principal and founder of KDA, Clare Irving, for all of her hard work over the past 18 months. Her legacy will live on following an incredibly successful eighteen months. I am extremely excited to implement my ideas and offer new opportunities for our students going forward.” said Meghan.

Megan’s dance career has been one of excitement and success, having danced as a Junior Associate at the Hammond School of Chester, trained at Phil Winston’s Theatreworks and performed with the English Youth Ballet. A versatile dancer, with a love of lyrical jazz, Megan also has many county and national championship medals under her belt from her time training as a gymnast with Lancaster Gymnastics (formerly Smartac).

“Dancing is my absolute passion and I hope to pass on my knowledge whilst having fun along the way.  There will be no stone left unturned in ensuring that I offer numerous opportunities to children and adults in the local community. We have a fantastic bunch of enthusiastic students at the school and it is a pleasure to watch them gain confidence and technical dance ability.” she explained.

Asides from her varied dance background, Megan is also highly qualified to take on the challenges of her new role having graduated with a BA Honors in Working with Children and Families at the University of Cumbria, in 2016.

Kendal Dance Academy currently offer a total of twelve classes weekly in acrobatics, ballet, jazz, musical theatre and tap with more to be added to the timetable for the start of the new term in September 2018.
