[T]here was cause for a double celebration for University of Cumbria medical imaging student Vicky Norman who not only joined around 50 colleagues in graduating but also received a prestigious prize in recognition of her outstanding work.
Vicky, from Carlisle was awarded Undergraduate Medical Imaging Prize for Professional and Academic Development for outstanding progress over the duration of the course.
“My advice is never give up; managing a family and a full-time course is tough but this is proof it can be done if you believe in yourself,” Vicky said.
At the University of Cumbria students like Vicky have access to a medical imaging laboratory equipped with the latest industry-standard medical imaging workstations allowing development of practical experience that help secure future employment. The university is about to make another investment £130,000 in upgrading the X-ray equipment to the newest wireless digital imaging systems.
Charles Sloane, principal lecturer in medical imaging, said: “Vicky has worked really hard to get her degree. She has moved from the midlands with her family to a new city. She has been able to balance her family life and bringing up three children with the academic and clinical demands of the programme. It is a fantastic achievement that she has been able to achieve an upper second-class degree classification.”
