John Stevenson MP

[J]ohn Stevenson, MP for Carlisle will be meeting with local farmers this Friday to discuss how the Government can most effectively support the agricultural industry in Cumbria.

The meeting, which will take place at Woodside Farm on the southern edge of John’s constituency, will see John conducting a roundtable discussion with a number of farmers who operate in the Carlisle area, as well as representatives from the NFU, the national body responsible for representing the interests of the farming community.

John will cover a wide range of topics during the discussion, including how the agricultural industry will be supported by the Government following the UK’s departure from the European Union.

Speaking about the upcoming meeting, John said: “Agriculture is an important part of Carlisle’s economy. Therefore I welcome my regular meetings with the NFU and with local farmers to take on board their views about Government policy.

“The Government is fully committed to ensuring the continued success of the agricultural industry in the Carlisle area, and across the UK. It recognises the vital role farming plays in our food security and our economy. I welcome the Prime Minister’s commitment to maintaining free trade access for agricultural products across Europe, and I am optimistic about new opportunities for our local farmers.”
