[A] CONVICTED sex offender has appeared in front of a judge after breaching a previous court order by entering a Carlisle park.
Michael Lawrence Graham, 29, found himself back in the dock at the city’s crown court earlier today (WED). This followed his guilty plea to breaching a sexual offences prevention order he was given as part of a four-year prison sentence in March, 2015, after being caught performing a sex act in Carlisle Library.
Graham was ordered to abide by strict conditions, one of which prohibited him from going into a host of areas, including parks and sports fields.
But having been released from custody in early July, Graham admitted he had spent several hours “watching the river” having walked through the city’s Rickerby Park and the nearby Chinese gardens. He also admitted stealing from a book shop.
Tim Evans, defending, spoke of homeless Graham’s “severe mental health difficulties”.
Judge James Adkin also heard the defendant had been given a five-year jail term, imposed in 2010, for child abduction.
As a result, Judge Adkin adjourned Graham’s case, and is due to pass sentence next month after considering the report of a psychiatrist.
