[A]t 11:14pm yesterday, Friday 10 August firefighters from Appleby, Kirkby Stephen and Penrith were called to reports of a barn on fire off the A66 Appleby bypass at Coupland Beck.
The barn measured around 30 x 15m and was well alight on arrival and partially collapsed.
A van had also caught alight.
A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Spokesman said: “At its peak, crews were using five mains jets to tackle the blaze, with a bowser and two fire engines ferrying water.
“Farm machinery was also being used to move around 300 bales of hay out of harm`s way.
“They worked throughout the night, using ground monitors to identify hotspots and hose reels to dampen down.
“In total, crews were detained for around eight hours.”
