An Appleby woman has appeared in court after being found guilty at a previous court hearing of driving without due care and attention.
Amy Victoria Smith, 21, drove a car without the proper licence or learner plates and no insurance.
She did not appear before magistrates in Carlisle on August 16 and she was found guilty in her absence.
Today [Thurs] the court was told on Tuesday March 13 she drove a black Peugeot car in the Sainsbury’s multi-storey car park on Garden Square, Penrith.
Magistrates were told, “she was with a friend and asked him if she could drive the car, he agreed”, she drove the car at speed down the ramp, mounted the central reservation and impacted on a bollard causing damaged the car.
Smith gave her address as Meadow Close, Appleby-in-Westmorland, she was asked by the court legal advisor if she had any comments to make to the magistrates, “why did she drive a car when she had no-licence”? She did not reply to the question.
Miss Smith had six-penalty-points added to her record for having no-insurance with a fine of £180, for the due care and attention offence she was fined £120 and had her licence endorsed as appropriate, with court costs of £85 and a victims surcharge of £30, for the no-licence offence she also had her licence endorsed where appropriate.
She was told although she has no-licence, if she ever applies for one, these endorsements will be added.
