Kathy Lette

Australian born author, screenwriter, journalist, party girl and all-round bonne vivant Kathy Lette hits the road in 2018 with her debut live show GIRLS NIGHT OUT.

Best known for her many novels including How To Kill Your Husband (and Other Handy Household Hints), Foetal Attraction, and Nip‘n’Tuck, Kathy’s decided it’s time to take centre stage for an evening with her, to share intimate details of her varied and multi-coloured personal, social and professional lives.

GIRLS NIGHT OUT is a psychological striptease taking us from Puberty Blues to Menopause Blues, with tales of love, lust, men, marriage, pregnancy, childbirth, mastitis, sexist bosses, teenage-daughter-wrangling, ageing, toy boys, making the Queen laugh, hiding Julian Assange in her attic, tongue-kissing Prince William and Close Encounters of the George Clooney Kind, en route.

Kathy also talks poignantly about the trials, tribulations and the hilarity of raising a child on the autistic spectrum, from the times Jules came home from school with a sign sticky-taped to his back saying “Kick me I’m a retard” to his success playing Jason on Holby City.

So, grab your girlfriends and come along. Wit, warmth and full frontal frankness are guaranteed. (Men, attend at your own risqué!)

Kathy Lette first achieved succes de scandale as a teenager with the novel Puberty Blues, which was made into a major film and a TV mini-series. After several years as a newspaper columnist and TV sitcom writer in America and Australia, she’s written 12 international bestsellers in her characteristic witty voice, including Mad Cows (which was made into a film staring Joanna Lumley and Anna Friel), How to Kill Your Husband (and Other Handy Household Hints) – staged by the Victorian opera), The Boy Who Fell to Earth, Courting Trouble, and Best Laid Plans – soon to be an eight-hour TV series.

Her novels have been published in 17 languages around the world.

Kathy appears regularly as a commentator on the BBC and Sky News. She is also an ambassador for Plan International, Ambitious about Autism and the National Autistic Society. She lives in London and can often be found at The Savoy (where she was writer in residence) drinking a cocktail named after her.  Kathy is an autodidact (a word she taught herself) but has honorary doctorates from Southampton Solent University and Wollongong University, plus a Senior Fellowship from London’s Regents University.

She cites her career highlights as teaching Stephen Fry a word, Salman Rushdie the limbo and scripting Julian Assange’s cameo in the 500th episode of The Simpsons.

Kathy’s new book BEST LAID PLANS was published in July 2017. With plenty of comic twists and emotional turns, it’s a riotous yet heartrending novel, which tackles the taboo subject of sex for the ‘differently abled’ – and shows us that when it comes to sex, we all have special needs.

Kathy Lette brings her debut live show GIRLS NIGHT OUT to the Carnegie Theatre, Workington on Tuesday 16th October and the Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal on Wednesday, 17th October.
