Kitten discarded in a hedge

Merida looking for a new forever home

At just 6 weeks old Merida, a beautiful tortoiseshell kitten, was spotted by a passer-by being thrown from a car into a hedge.

When they approached the hedge they realised that she was small, flea-ridden, malnourished, frightened and alone. The passer-by contacted Oak Tree Animals’ Charity, Wetheral, who advised her first to take her to their partner vets Eden Veterinary Centre in Carlisle who were close by.

The vet team checked Merida over and worked alongside Oak Tree Animals’ Charity to rehabilitate Merida and bring her back to health.

The first challenge was to increase her weight and ensure she was treated for her flea infestation and any worms. The team put her on a highly nutritious diet with round the clock care to ensure that she built up strength. The Oak Tree staff and volunteers also spent a lot of time playing with her and socialising her to make sure she was equipped with the lifeskills to cope in a home environment when the time came.

We are pleased to say that Merida is thriving and has now begun her hunt for her forever home, at 12 weeks old she is a lovable, lively and playful kitten looking for that perfect family to join.

Anne-Marie McGivern, Veterinary Nurse Supervisor at Oak Tree explained “Merida is a fabulous kitten with loads of love to give. She had a difficult start having been discarded in a hedge so young, but she has overcome every hurdle and responded well to dietary improvements and medical care. She is now ready to start the next phase of her adventure as a loving family pet. We hope that someone will fall in love with her and give her the wonderful home she so deserves.”
