This very tight game was ultimately decided by a referee decision. The game had looked to be drifting towards a stalemate until midway through the 2nd half when the referee awarded a penalty to Accrington.

The referee confirmed that Penrith keeper Michelle Jones did take the ball in her challenge but awarded the penalty for contact with her trailing leg.

Accrington took full advantage as they scored the spot kick and despite Penrith’s best efforts in the final 20 mins of the game they were unable to get back into the game.

Manager Simon Savage said “Accrington had the better chances on the day but we defended resolutely. After all our hard work it was frustrating to lose the game in this manner however I can take much heart from the effort put in by the girls.

This Sunday Penrith AFC Ladies welcome a very talented FC United Women team to Frenchfields 2pm ko.

Penrith: Jones, Smethurst, Han Fawkes, C.Smith, McCormick, Hea Fawkes, Nutter (Jackson), Coulthard (Alderson), Robinson, Hopton (Buchanan), Johnston.
