The build-up to the new football season continued apace with most of our county sides involved in pre-season friendlies on Saturday.
At Holker Street new Barrow manager Adam Murray saw his Bluebirds side beat county neighbours Workington Reds 2-0 with both goals in the first-half.
Goals from Alex Reid and Rekeem Harper clinched the victory for Barrow after they enjoyed the lion’s share of possession on a very hot day.
Murray said afterwards: “We’ve seen a lot of good things that we’ve been working on and looking at but we’ve also seen a lot of things we need to work on.”
Workington manager Billy Barr spoke to Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh and you can listen to it below:
Carlisle City had a very attractive home game against last season’s NPL Premier Division champions Hebburn Town who will playing in National North this coming season.
It finished 2-1 to the North East visitors but that represented a very good effort from City, who were denied a draw by a goal three minutes from the end.
Jordan Irving, who was a constant threat, scored the City equaliser after Hebburn had gone ahead just before half-time.
You can hear the thoughts of manager Dan Kirkup by listening below as he chats with Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh:
There was a very special day at Kendal Town when they entertained Whitehaven for their latest friendly.
It was a day to celebrate the memory of Bill Robson, a special figure in the history of both clubs and as well as the game at first team level there were also youth team and ladies matches.
Jamie Looker scored both goals for Kendal in the 2-1 win over the West Cumbrian visitors with Oscar Pickering notching Whitehaven’s reply 10 minutes from the end.
