Whitehaven got the better of former coach Anthony Murray and his Swinton Lions side with a 34-24 victory at the Ortus Rec.
It was a topsy turvy game with Haven coming through to win it with the last two tries of the contest.
They had trailed 12-0; came back to lead 22-12; lost their way again to go 24-22 behind before winning it with two late tries.
It was revenge for a 40-12 defeat at Swinton back in May and hoists them to 12th in the Championship table just a point off the important top ten.
The Lions had roared early with two tries in the first 15 minutes, both converted by Jordy Gibson. Josh Eaves went over on 10 minutes and he was soon followed by Jordan Brown.
By half-time, though, Whitehaven had scored 20 unanswered points to take a handy lead into the break.

Ben Pearce, whose father has just joined the board of directors, crossed on 20 minutes and he was followed over by Ciaran Walker (30), Jay Weatherill (33) and Ellison Holgate (39).
Walker, one of the Championship’s top points scorers, added to his tally with three conversions.

Swinton responded well in the third quarter of the game and two tries by Gavin Rodden in the 50th and 58th minutes, both converted by Gibson, edged them ahead.

But back came Whitehaven and when Holgate scored his second try after 72 minutes, converted by Walker, they were back in front 28-24.

It was knife-edge entertainment, hard and committed, but Whitehaven clinched the points when young hooker Williamson darted through for the decisive try three minutes from the end, converted by Walker.

Whitehaven will be looking to follow up on Sunday when they host Goole Vikings when a Championship double will be within their sights.
